Next week (Sept. 30-Oct. 1), most 5th graders will be at Science Camp, also known as San Joaquin County’s Outdoor Education Program.
Science Camp encourages children to experience a rich, science-based environment, as well as learn to appreciate the bounty and diversity of the earth by taking a responsible role in protecting natural resources. The students will have an exciting time learning about nature.
I will be accompanying the students to Science Camp this year with Ms. Martinez. A total of 17 students in our class are going to Science Camp. Students not going will be joining all the other 5th graders in Ms. Attaway’s class for the week.
Please sign up for the “Remind” app for daily Science Camp updates and pictures. Thank you!
We will begin our Parent-Student-Teacher (PST) Conferences in the month of October. I sent home invitations along with the Progress Report last week. Please return the yellow form as soon as possible. Looking forward to meet with all parents and students.
Thank you for your support.
FALL BREAK ASSIGNMENTS
Fall Break will be from October 7-11. During the break, please set aside some time everyday for your child to do these assignments:
First Trimester Progress Report is going home with your child this Wednesday, September 18, 2019 showing the current status of your child in class. We will have many more assignments/projects to complete. These grades could go up or down, depending on the work your child does between now and at the end of the Trimester (November 1st).
Please look over the report and either encourage your child to continue doing good work or talk about trying their best in all assignments, turning in all classwork and homework. i-Ready scores and AR progress will also be included with the Progress Report.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
We will begin our Parent-Student-Teacher (PST) Conferences in the month of October. I will send home invitations along with the Progress Report. Looking forward to meeting with all parents and students. Thank you.
Our Class gradebook is available on our class website. The students are required to check their grades at least once a week on Mondays. Having the gradebook online offers parents a way to keep track of your child’s progress but more importantly, it will help students to be responsible for their own education.
DAILY AGENDA & HOMEWORK SCHEDULE
If you want to take a look at our class daily learning agenda as well as homework schedule for the week, please go to our Class Website and click on Parents’ Page. The Daily Schedule button is under the “Parent Links” category. Click here for the direct link.
Our class will hold our first “Flea Market Friday” in the classroom on September 13. The purpose is to use our Class Money to buy (and/or sell) little trinkets and other knick-knacks. During the process of buying and selling, students are required to calculate prices, add, subtract, divide, multiply, give correct change, and wisely use their money to make more money or to bargain and buy things they’d like to have. This is a great way to learn how to run a business and the “art” of selling. It is also a part of applying Common Core State Standards to real-life activities in the classroom.
Students are NOT ALLOWED to bring anything of value, instead, they can bring old toys, playing cards, games, books, and other used “stuff” that they have and want to sell. Students can also sell special skills like coloring, drawings, paintings, making balloon animals, or other creations and even do demonstrations.
We will have a fun learning experience in our first Flea Market. THANK YOU for your support.
Our Class Gradebook is going online this week. I will introduce it with the students and go over the log-in procedures. They are required to check their grades at least once a week.
Having a gradebook will not only let parents keep track of progress but more importantly, it will help students to be responsible for their own education. Grades are usually updated each week on Sunday.
To get to the Gradebook, go to our class website: www.Journey5th.us, click on the A+ icon under “Quick Links” and enter the student information.
Let me know if you have questions or concerns.
Strings and Band students will start their music trainings with Ms. Anderson beginning this week. Below is the weekly schedule:
Although I support your child’s musical interests and will try my best not to plan essential subjects during music times, but your child would have to miss some reading, technology, P.E. and work time when they are in music class.
Please encourage your child to be determined to succeed in music and not let them miss a practice session at home. Thank you!
