DEAR PARENTS...

AR is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his own level and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) AR gives children, teachers, and parents feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.
5th Grade students are expected to read at least 30 minutes on their own. Reading is an assigned homework for every day. Please make sure your child has a quiet place and time to read their AR minutes every day. Thank you.

LIBRARY BOOKS
We are fortunate that Rio Calaveras has a Library full of wonderful books for students to read and expand their knowledge. Please help me in reminding your child that it’s very important to take good care of the library books entrusted to them. After the reading home, please make sure that books are taken care of, not thrown on the floor or somewhere that the books can become dirty or torn. We go to the library every week on Tuesday to return and borrow new books. Overdue library books will incur fines and your child cannot borrow any more books until they are returned.
With your child’s being responsible and your help, we will always have books from the library to enjoy. Thank you.

AFFORDABLE INTERNET
Comcast Xfinity has a special program that offers internet for 9.95/month. Having internet opens your home to many learning opportunities for your child.
