After 1 full week of school, we are getting to know each other, and the students are learning on how we need to behave in class as students. We use the PBIS Guidelines to help us to be good citizens. We also practice the 5 P's of Learning where students will be Prepare for class, Participate actively, have a Positive attitude, treat others Politely, and follow class Procedures. With these guidelines, I firmly believe that students will learn effectively in an environment which is conducive to the teaching and learning process: safe, responsible, and respectful.
This year, students are learning to be independent and responsible for their own education. As we get into our 5th Grade Curriculum, students will have more and more assignments to do in class and at home. I want the students to be accountable of what they need to do, how to do it, and when to turn it in. You can encourage your child, support them, but please do not come to their rescue at the first sign of trouble. Learning from mistakes and accepting consequences are valuable lessons that will help your child tremendously in the future as they continue to higher grades.
For a few students, this process will be slow and at times, I will ask you to step in. But for the most part, we will encourage them to make good decisions and to understand that there are consequences that come with not making good choices or not following directions. Thank you for your support.
