This week, we will be very busy preparing for the important California Assessment Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) testing that will take place at the beginning of April for 3 weeks. The students will be involved in a lot of review in math, reading, and language arts. We will go over test taking skills and take practice tests, Please support our class in encouraging your child and making sure your child will have the best chance to do well by being at school on time every day. Thank you.
I will send home a CAASPP tips and suggestions in this week's Learning Schedule and the March Newsletter at the end of the week.
CLASS ASSIGNMENTS UPDATE
In April, we are continuing and starting these assignments and projects below.
During testing weeks, homework is not assigned to students. However, students are still required to read daily for at least 30 minutes and work on the various class assignments and projects. Please encourage your child to continue to read everyday to achieve our 100% Class AR Contract.
Thank you for your support.
2nd Trimester Awards Assembly will be on Wednesday, March 13, at 9:15am to recognize 23 students who have achieved AR goals, Honor Roll, MAP, and other achievements. We invite parents to share in this special occasion with your child. Invitations will be sent home on Monday.
There are quite a few students in our class, although did not receive a certificate, have worked hard to improve academically as well as citizenship in the classroom. Congratulations! Keep up the good work.
Rio Calaveras will be on break from March 18-22. During the break, the students will be given Reading Plus or Lexia assignments and Khan Academy/Moby Max. Please remind your child to read everyday during the break to achieve their AR Goals. Thank you!
For the 3rd Trimester, all students in class signed AR 100% Contract in which they promised to read everyday and to support each other so that EVERYONE in class will achieve our AR goals!
We are doing this because we know the importance of reading in education and we want to develop a lifelong love for reading. Please support the students in this very difficult challenge by making sure that they have a time and place to read at home everyday for at least 30 minutes.
Thank you Parents!
2ND TRIMESTER REPORT CARD
Report cards will go home on Wednesday. Grades are given in rubric format in relation to the 5th grade standards. Here is the percentage range for each of the rubric score:
4 = Exceed Standard (98-100%)
3 = At Standard (70% - 97%)
2 = Near Standard (40% - 69%)
1 = Below Standard (1% - 39%)
The goal is for all students to reach the score of 3 or “At Standard”. Please encourage your child to continue to do well or give more effort in the 3rd Trimester. I will also include a gradebook copy which shows the grade percentages your child receives for each subject. A detailed final 2nd Trimester grades are posted on our class website.
As always, please let me know if you have questions or concerns. Thank you!
